Gone Forever
Chapter 20
He has no sense of decency? I might as well heat him to death?”
“Clara, disciplining my son is my job. What’s it to you? If you were any good, you wouldn’t have raised such a sneaky daughter!
The moment these words were spoken, not only Clara but even Missy felt á pang of discomfort. Both of them turned pale, unable to utter a single word.
Despite her age, Monica kept herself fit with regular exercise in the park. She was in better shape than most young people who spent their days glued to their phones.
Now, as she continued to beat Percy, she appeared a decade younger, her every move brimming with fierce energy. After a dozen more strikes, Percy’s face turned pale, and Monica finally stopped.
As she sat down, a cup of tea was handed to her. The soothing aroma calmed her agitated mind.
She looked up and met Elsie’s bright eyes. Monica had never really looked at her granddaughter so closely before. Now, she realized how much Elsie’s eyes resembled her own when she was young.
Examining Elsie’s features further, she was delighted to see that Elsie looked the most like her out of the entire Forbes family.
Monica took the tea and pulled Elsie to sit beside her. After a sip, she said, “Elsie, I taught Percy a lesson for you. If you’re still mad. you can use my cane and give him another beating.”
Percy, still reeling from the beating, shivered and nearly collapsed. The last time he had been beaten was when his father was still alive, which was at least twenty or thirty years ago.
Elsie smiled and shook her head, gesturing with her hands. “No need, thank you, Grandma.”
Monica looked at a middle–aged man in servant’s attire beside her. The man translated Elsie’s sign language for everyone. No one in the Forbes family knew sign language, so Monica had hired someone who did.
Monica’s eyes welled up as she looked at Elsie’s delicate face, feeling even more sorrowful about her inability to speak.
She had once been ashamed of Elsie for being mute, thinking it brought disgrace to them.
But now, with age and wisdom, she realized how harshly she had treated Elsie, especially after hearing about Elsie’s impending divorce from Ronald due to Missy.
She felt a deep sense of guilt and had gathered the entire family at the Forbes Villa.
Feeling even more compassion, she patted Elsie’s hand and said, “I am old, and my mind is not as sharp as it used to be. Despite my efforts, I couldn’t quite grasp sign language after much trying, so I brought someone to translate for me. I hope you don’t mind.”
Elsie shook her head. In the past, no one in the Forbes family cared about what she had to say, let alone learn sign language. The fact that Monica even wanted to learn was surprising enough.
Monica smiled warmly. “I called you back to persuade you not to divorce Ronald. It wasn’t easy for you two to get married; wouldn’t it be a pity to divorce so hastily?”
Elsie kept her gentle smile and signed firmly, “Grandma, I don’t love Ronald anymore. He’s agreed to the divorce.”
Monica’s voice turned icy, her eyes narrowing as she looked at Missy. “Is it because of Missy?”

Monica’s eyes flashed with anger as she struck Percy again with her pane, making him yelp. 111 beat you to death, yerless fact You can’t even control your daughter, and now she’s become her brother–in–law’s mistress! You’ve ruined the Forbes family: reputation. You might as well die and save me the trouble!
She never once looked at Missy, whose face turned ashen,
“Mom! Whoever marries Ronald is still a child of the Forbes family! If Elsie can marry him, why can’t my daughter? Clara protested, shielding Missy and glaring defiantly.
Monica didn’t even look up, striking Percy again. “You can’t control your daughter, and you even married someone who doesn’t + respect me! What’s the point of you?”
Percy, on the verge of tears, grabbed Monica’s cane and turned to slap both Clara and Missy. “Shut up! Do you want me to get beaten to death?”
Monica had raised him with great effort; he couldn’t possibly hit his mother. Clara and Missy stared at Percy in disbelief but didn’t dare say another word as they saw the fury in his eyes.
Percy was no gentleman who refrained from hitting women.
Elsie watched with interest, finally convinced that Monica genuinely wanted to stand up for her.
She gently patted Monica’s back and signed, “Grandma, I really don’t love Ronald anymore. I want the divorce. I don’t want to deal with Ronald and Missy anymore. And Missy is pregnant with Ronald’s child. If she really goes through with the abortion, who knows what kind of trouble it will stir up. It would also be detrimental to the Forbes family.”
Monica’s heart ached. How could Elsie be so understanding while Missy was worse than a streetwalker?
She hugged Elsie tightly. “My poor granddaughter, how could Ronald treat you like this? I’ve neglected you all these years, but I promise I’ll make it right. I was going to split my inheritance between you and Missy, but now that she’s done something so disgraceful, she doesn’t deserve it. It’s all yours, including the Forbes Villa!”
Everyone was shocked. The Forbes Villa was meant for the head of the family. This declaration spoke volumes.
