Gone Forever
Chapter 24
It made Bruce’s heart ache just thinking about it.
When Albert walked in, this was the scene he saw.
Bruce was sitting close to Elsie, their fingers intertwined in an intimate gesture.
A flash of confusion crossed Albert’s eyes. He couldn’t understand when the two had become so close.
Before Albert could say anything, Bruce, sensing his presence, quickly stood up and let go of Elsie’s hand. “It’s not what you think. I was just treating Elsie!”
Albert’s gaze fell on Bruce, and he nodded indifferently before looking at Elsie.
His voice was cold and distant. “How is she doing?”
“The initial treatment seems to be working. Elsie spoke just now.”
Bruce wiped away nonexistent sweat from his forehead and returned to his usual gentle and courteous demeanor.
He smiled and explained to Albert, “The preliminary conclusion is that her inability to speak is related to the memories she lost during childhood.”
“Once she can accept that memory, she might be able to speak again.
Suddenly, a small child burst into the room, hugging Bruce’s leg with curious eyes.
It was Molly.
She held a Barbie doll in one hand and pointed at the sleeping Elsie with the other, tilting her head. Her pigtails hung down, and her long eyelashes fluttered like butterflies, full of curiosity.
Bruce’s smile deepened at her adorable appearance.
He spoke slowly, making his mouth movements clear, “Ms. Forbes is asleep because the treatment tired her out. When she wakes up, she might be able to talk.”
Molly, who had been learning to read lips recently, took a moment to understand what Bruce was saying.
Her eyes widened in disbelief as she looked at Bruce.
Her chubby little hands gestured, “Really? Ms. Forbes will be able to talk?”
“Yes!” Bruce nodded confidently, his eyes filled with assurance. “As long as Ms. Forbes continues her treatment diligently, she will definitely be able to speak in the future!”
“That’s great! I’m going to tell my friends!” Molly turned and ran out, eager to share the news with her friends.
However, just as she reached the door, she saw a row of little heads peeking out.
“Mr. Valois, can we celebrate this happy news for Ms. Forbes?”
Bruce looked at the line of small heads at the door and nodded with a smile. “Sure! Go ahead and prepare!”

Chapter 24
Although he didn’t know what Elsie’s dream was about, he could guess it was a very sorrowful one.
Having these kids celebrate for her might help wake her from that sadness, reminding her of the differences between dreams and reality.
Meanwhile, Ronald sat in the CEO’s office on the top floor of the York Group Building.
On the tablet in front of him, a search query was displayed.
[What is the divorce cooling–off period?]
[Can you still get divorced if you regret it during the cooling–off period?]
The more he searched, the darker Ronald’s expression became. He looked at various successful divorce cases online, then at his phone.
The phone screen was pitch–black; there wasn’t a single call or message from Elsie.
His heart sank further, and the cold smile on his lips grew more sinister.
Ronald thought, ‘You said you liked me? Is this how you show it? Don’t you realize that your constant use of playing hard to get becomes increasingly tiresome to me?‘
He slammed the tablet down on the desk.
He wanted to see when Elsie would regret it!
Ronald rubbed his temples, the veins on his forehead throbbing with pain. When he looked up, he realized it was already morning
He had been up all night since returning from Novaria, not having had a chance to adjust to the time difference, and still couldn’t sleep.
Of course, it was also possible that he was infuriated by Elsie.
Ronald turned his chair to look at the rising sun outside the floor–to–ceiling window, but his mind was filled with the image of Elsie’s carefree and confident back as she left yesterday.
Maybe it was because he hadn’t slept, and his heart suddenly started to ache.
The assistant walked into the CEO’s office, intending to grab some documents and leave, but was startled by Ronald’s deep–set eyes.
Ronald’s chair was large, and with his back to the desk, the assistant hadn’t realized he was sitting there.
Seeing those dark–circled eyes suddenly, the assistant almost fell, thinking it was a ghost.
“Mr. York? You didn’t go home to rest?”
Ronald continued to stare at him silently, only responding after a long moment, frowning.
He supported his throbbing head and asked coldly, “Today’s schedule?
The assistant hesitated before starting to report the day’s tasks.
Sometimes, he really admired Ronald.

Chapter 24
After he followed Ronald abroad, returned to the country, went to the hospital, and attended court sessions, he was utterly exhausted, so much so that he went straight to bed without even wanting to eat once he got home.
Yet Ronald had spent the whole night working at the company!
He truly admired Ronald. He deserved every penny he earned!
After reporting, the assistant noticed Ronald’s pale face and hesitated before suggesting, “Mr. York, maybe you should go home and rest? The company’s matters aren’t that urgent!”
Ronald shook his head and walked towards the rest area, his voice filled with exhaustion. No need, I’ll just rest for a bit. Wake me
at nine.”
The assistant glanced at his watch. It was 8:45.
He thought, You’re only going to sleep for fifteen minutes? Are you rally a machine?
Ronald had just lain down in the rest area when a sharp phone ring jolted him awake.
His muddled mind instantly cleared, and his first thought was whether Elsie had regretted it.
Was she calling to reconcile?
But the next second, he saw the name on the phone.
It was Missy.
He hung up the call, turned off his phone, and let himself fall into sleep.
Elsie didn’t know how long she had slept, but when she woke up, she felt a sense of loss in her chest.
It was as if she had forgotten something important.
But whenever she tried to remember what it was, her head felt like it was going to explode.
Suddenly, a chubby little hand grabbed hers, forcing her clenched hand open, then a chubby little face leaned in.
Elsie turned her head to see it was Molly.
Elsie smiled gently, like a cool breeze after a heavy rain.
Molly, however, looked at her with concern, walked up to her, and wiped away her tears with her chubby little hands.
Then she pressed her soft little lips to Elsie’s cheek. It was as if she was comforting Elsie, who couldn’t help but cry even in her sleep.
