Chapter 53
Aline finally locked eyes with Missy.
She immediately recognized Missy, thinking, Ian I this the very sang Missy from the exposé video, Ronald’s mistress?
These days, even mistresses could be this bold?
Aline sneered.
“Aren’t you I
the woman all over Ronald in that video?”
“And now, how dare you pretend to be his legitimate wife?”
Missy’s face went pale. She hadn’t expected Aline to confront her like that.
Josie, seeing this, immediately stepped forward and slapped Aline.
“Watch your mouth! Our Missy is Ronald’s fiancée!”
Aline’s head snapped to the side, a trickle of blood appearing at the corner of her mouth.
But the defiance in her eyes didn’t waver.
“Fiancée? A mistress is a mistress. Stop pretending to be innocent.”
“You!” Josie was about to strike again, but Missy stopped her.
“Josie, don’t waste your breath on her.”
Missy said, “Let’s get straight to the point. How much will it take for you to kick Elsie out? Is half a million dollars enough?”
Missy knew Aline’s type v
well. Money was the best way to get through to her.
Aline held her face, a bitter smile forming as she sighed.
She did need a lot of money.
Her
father’s gambling debts were a bottomless pit, and the creditors were constantly at her door, driving her to the brink of madness.
She rented the house to Elsie without any intention of letting her stay long term; she merely wanted to collect some rent to pay off her debts.
“Tine, I agree.” Aline gritted her teeth and said.
Missy smiled in
in satisfaction. “That’s more like it. People who know how to adapt to the e situation have a better future.”
She pulled out three envelopes filled with cash a
and handed them to line.
“This is a down payment. Once it’s done, 111 give you the rest. We’ll be in touch.”
Aline took the mar
money, gripping it tightly.

“I want Elsie out of there willin three days.
Missy threw out the words coldly, then turned and loft with Josie.
Aline watched their backs as they walked away.
She knew she was doing something wrong, but she had no choice,
Aline bought her medicine and returned home,
Closing the door, she curled up in a comer,
Opening the envelopes Missy had given her, she found a total of $250,000,
She could pay off all u
the debts and still have some money left for herself.
Looking at the $250,000, Aline couldn’t help but laugh.
Aline thought, So, when I am pushed to the edge, there is hope. But why does this hope have to come at the cost of someone else’s pain?
“I’m sorry, Elsie.” She whispered, tears silently falling.
The
Aline clutched the stack of money, her palms sweaty.
$250,000 felt heavy, , like a burning iron, making her heart race.
She staggered to her feet, supporting herself against the wall, and went to the place she had arranged with the creditors.
She navigated her way to a rundown casino.
A group of burly men were sitting around a table, loudly chatting.
“Here’s $200,000. All my dad’s debts are paid off.”

The leader glanced at her, picked up the money, and counted it, a satisfied smile spreading across his face.
“Aline, what did you do to get rich so quickly? It’s odd to see you come up with $200,000 all at once.”
“Where’s my dad?”
Aline cut to the chase. She didn’t want any further dealings with these people.
“Your dad? He owed me so much, and now you’re paying it
it off! If you can find him, that would be a miracle!”
The leader mocked, spitting on the ground.
Aline suppressed her disgust, stepping closer to the leader, her gaze sharp. “If you know where my dad is, you’d better tell me. When was the last time you saw him? Where?
The leader said, “Since you paid me back, III tell you. Three days ago at the docks. He seemed to be heading out to sea.”
Aline turned and left, dialing her father’s number.

The phone rang for a long time before it was answered, the background noise loud and a man’s heavy breathing audible
“Hello?” A weak voice, tinged with impatience.
“Dad, it’s me.” Alines voice was cold as fer.
“Aline, did you get the money?” The voice on the other end instantly became ingratiating.
“Yes, I got it. I’ve paid o
off all your debis. Aline’s tone was e
calm, develd of any emotion.
“Aline, you’re my good daughter! I knew you wouldn’t abandon met When I make money, I’ll repay you well!”
“No need.” Aline cut him off.
“From now on, consider me no longer
r your
daughter.
I won’t be helping you anymore.”
With that, Aline hung up without hesitation.
Taking a deep breath, Aline wiped away her tears and headed towards Elsie’s place.
The evening sunlight streamed through the windows, filling the room with a warm glow, while the air was redolent with the aroma of food.
Elsie was busy in the kitchen, wearing a light blue apron.
Her long hair was casually tied up, revealing her slender neck
Various fresh ingredients were laid out on the counter.
She skillfully washed, chopped, and cooked.
A knock resounded, and Elsie opened the door.
Seeing Aline standing outside, she hesitated.
“Aline?” Elsie signed.
Aline looked at Elsie, feeling a pang of
ng of guilt.
Elsie was pure and innocent, like a lotus blooming in the mud.
And she was about to push her into the abyss
miss for money.
“Are you cooking?” Aline’s voice was hoarse.
Elsie nodded, stepping aside to let her in.
It smells so good. What are you making?”
Aline took a deep breath, her stomach growling at the scent of food
Elsie smiled, signing. I’m making Glazed Ham and the Mashed Potatoes you said

“Didn’t you leave yesterday?
“I thought I’d cook first, then go downstairs to get you.”
“Since it’s our first meal together after I moved in, I didn’t want you to miss it.”
“Let’s eat together.”
Elsie set the table, signing to invite Aline.
Aline nodded, sitting at the table.
Elsie served her a portion of food.
“Thank you.” Aline kept her head down, eating silently.
Elsie watched her, full of concern.
She sensed something was off with Aline today.
But Elsie didn’t ask, just quietly ate with her.
The Glazed Ham was sweet and juicy, the Mashed Potatoes creamy and flavorful.
But Aline could barely taste it, her fork poking at the ham, unable to swallow a bite.
She tried several times to speak, but each time she met Elsie’s clear gaze, she swallowed her words.
Elsie’s eyes were too pure, making Aline feel f
filthy in comparison.
