Chapter 57
Josie watched from the side, her heart pounding with fear.
Although she wasn’t a
a virtuous person herself, she had never witnesed such a scene.
Missy’s ferocity instilled fear in her.
“Missy! That’s enough! If you keep going, you ll kill her
Josie
sie finally couldn’t stand it anymore and stepped forward to pull Missy away.
Missy’s eyes were bloodshot, and she wasn’t listening to reason.
She shoved Josie aside and continued to punch and kick Aline.
“Bitch! Who
do you think you are? How dare you lecture me! I’ll beat you to death today!”
Missy screamed hysterically, completely losing her mind.
Josie didn’t dare to intervene further. She could only hold onto Missy’s waist tightly, trying to stop her from continuing the assault.
“Enough, Missy! Do you want to go to jail? Have you forgotten you’re pregnant?”
Josie shouted at the top of her lungs.
Those words hit Missy like a bucket of cold water.
She paused, finally starting to calm down.
Breathing heavily, she glared at the barely conscious Al
Aline one last time before stumbling out of the alley.
Josie quickly followed.
Before leaving, she shot a look of disgust at Aline lying on the ground and spat. “Serves you right!”
The alley fell silent again, with only
nly Aline’s f
faint breathing breaking the stillness.
Aline’s body felt like it was falling apart, every bone aching intensely
She struggled to open her eyes, staring at the gray sky as her consciousness began to fade.
In this life, aside fro
from Elsie, no one had ever been kind to her.
That mute Elsie had given her a bit of warmth in her own unique way.
But now, she would never see Elsie again.
Suddenly, a pair of black leather shoes appeared in Alines line of sight.
She tried to see who it was but couldn’t keep her eyes open.
“Her actions are truly ruthless.” A deep male voice said.

She wanted to open her eyes but couldn’1.
She knew she was still alive, but she had no idea who had saved her or where she was being taken.
Meanwhile, Elsie walked out of the sanitorium, her vocal cords finally feeling a bit better.
Even if aphasia could be cured, the timeline for recovery remained uncertain..
Bruce had said that a troubled heart needed a remedy for the heart.
But how could she easily untangle the knot in her heart?
As she reached the entrance of the sanitorium, she saw a familiar black car parked there.
The window rolled down slowly, revealing Monica’s kind yet slightly approachful
thful face. “Elsie, my dear, why haven’t you come home to
see me? I’ve missed you so much!”
Elsie’s heart warmed. She quickly walked to the car, bent down, and signed with her hands. “Grandma, I’m sorry, I’ve been a bit busy
lately.”
She felt a bit guilty. Since her divorce, she had moved out of The Forbes Villa.
She said she wanted to start a new life but had neglected her family in the process.
Monica held Elsie’s hand tenderly and patted her head gently
“Elsie, I know you’re hurting inside. Come on; got in the car. I’ll take you to eat something delicious.”
Elsie obediently got into the car.
The car drove smoothly, the interior filled with a faint scent of sandalwood.
It was Monica’s usual choice of fragrance.
Elsie watched the scenery fly by outside the window, her thoughts drifting.
At the restaurant, Monica ordered a table full of Elsie’s favorite dishes.
Throughout the meal, she kept putting food on Elsie’s plate.
She continuously chattered about the petty y affairs of home, as if striving to compensate for the affection and concern that had been lacking during this period.
“Elsie, I worry about you living alone. Have you made any new friends?” Monica asked with concern.
Elsie nodded and signed. “I met a landlord named Aline Taylor. She’s very nice.”

Thinking about Aline’s situation made Elsie feel sad.
She briefly told Monica about Aline, leaving out the dreadful detail and only mentioning the good things and some minor troubles
Monica sighed after hearing the story. This world can he so cruel, 11) good you met her, at least you have someone to rely on.
Elsie continued signing, also met

Monica smiled with relief. “Elsie, seeing you start a new life puts my mind at ease. Let the past stay in the past. You’re still young, and there’s a long road ahead.”
Elsie nodded, her eyes slightly moist.
She knew
Monica genuinely cared for her and wanted her to move and start anew.
After dinner, Monica insisted on driving Elsie home.
In the car, Monica suddenly asked, “Elsie, be honest with me. Is there any chance you and Ronald could get back together?”
Elsie was taken aback for a moment, then shook her head, her eyes dimming.
It was impossible. There was too much between them Monica looked at Elsie’s calm expression, feeling a mix of emotions.
Elsie had suffered so much over the years and now just wanted a peaceful life. Monica didn’t want to push her anymore.
“Elsie, you’re too sensible.” Monica sighed.
“But it’s g
good you got divorced, Ronald doesn’t deserve you! I’ll find you someone better!”
Before getting out of the car, Monica hugged Elsie tightly.
“Elsie, no matter what happens, I’ll always be your strongest support
Elsie nodded, watching Monica’s car drive away.
Then she turned and walked into the apartment building.
As the elevator ascended, Elsie’s heart grew heavier.
Elsie returned to her small rented apartment, opened the door, and habitually looked for Spud.

Elsie was getting worried. She walked to the balcony and looked down at the flowerbed below.
Spud was there, rubbing affectionately against a large black tomcat.
The black cat was sleek and well–fed, clearly taken care of by someone. It was m very pleased.
It was making low sounds at Spud, its tail held high, looking
