Chapter 9
I stayed in the hospital for three more days.
To my surprise, Serena Sinclair drove 40 minutes each day to visit me. She stayed from morning until sunset.
I told her to leave, but she refused.
“Elias, I’m doing this to show you that you’re still important to me. I don’t want to lose you. Please reconsider moving to Seattle.”
I called her crazy and told her she was wasting her time, but she persisted.
I even tried to work with the hospital to block her visits. The nurses informed me that Serena had caused no disturbances and had every right to visit me.
I hired two security guards to keep her out, but she simply called the police. Showing them our marriage certificate, she convinced the officers to mediate, advising us not to waste public resources.
Exhausted, I gave up fighting her and focused on recovering.
Serena seemed to take my resignation as a sign of reconciliation. She redoubled her efforts to win me back, but all it did was push me further away.
