Knightly
“There’s no specific rule for it and it takes a real piece of shit to do it. For an alpha to take his title, he needs a mate. Two alphas to lead the pack. He found his and activated his wolf. He killed her to keep both their power. It makes him stronger than most alphas. That’s the term we use for their kind. Feral,”
“That sounds scary,” she sits back.
“My Dad is from Pennsylvania. If I had marked her, taken her as my chosen mate. Their packs would have merged. Becoming one of the biggest in the country,”
“Wow, and what happened?”
“I accepted. I had no intention of becoming an alpha. She wanted that title for herself and our kids would have been strong heirs. Then Blithe came home and everything changed,”
“She was his mate?” she concludes.
“Yeah, and being mated to him would have meant her moving here. She wouldn’t have been an alpha. She would have had to settle for being a luna. She had her uncle kill Blithe and then tried to blame it on my biological father.
“I almost killed him, but my dad showed up and he told me that Arnold had nothing to gain from killing my brother. She told me the truth when I confronted her. She said she had done it for us and that she loved me. I lost it. My wolf was dormant at the time, and Arnold helped me. I just left her and her parents alive. I took everything and he kept her pack,”
“Jesus,” she says rubbing her neck. “Why was your wolf dormant? Were you not old enough or something?“–
“I think that’s enough excitement for you,” I say worriedly.
“Come on. Besides, I don’t think I’m going to be able to sleep after everything that’s happened,” she pulls her legs up to wrap her arms around them. “I never thought there. would come a day when the twins would be put in a situation like this. I mean, I called you,” she says like it’s something she’s never even considered. “I was so scared,”
“Me too,” I admit. “I’ve been having trouble with my wolf and as soon as I heard how scared you were, I’ve never felt that before,”
“Is he calm now?” she scoots closer to me. “The twins are safe. Does he know that?”
“Yes,” I smile.

My senses were shrowded with Ayrie’s and Aizen’s from the moment I stepped into that apartment. They were all that mattered to me and my wolf, but now that I know they’re safe. I can fully take in this little human in front of me.

Phoebe has a very elegant and subtle scent. Like frosted cherry blossoms. I’ve never seen eyes like hers before. They’re dark blue and in the low lighting, they look pitch black. Just like her hair. Her body has significantly changed since the first time we met. She looks a little older, but her eyes are still filled with life.
“Do I have something on my face?” she asks.
“No,” I look away. “I just–You-”
“Me?” she laughs.
“You make me nervous,” I admit.
“Me? You showed up one day with your pretty green eyes and tattoos and you didn’t even have to say much to get me into my bed and then you disappeared into the sunset. Now here you are again and I still don’t know how that happened or why I feel so safe here with you,” she turns away and rubs her face. “Scratch that. I’m just super fucking stupid. I know what is happening,”
“Yes, you do,” I sigh. “You just don’t want to believe it,”
She turns her head enough to glare at me. “Maybe not. Maybe I’m having trouble wrapping my mind around all of this and saying something crazy like that out loud is. too much,”
“Maybe,” I agree. She looks away nodding.
“Is that something you even want?” she asks.
“I can’t ignore it anymore. Our pups are involved,”
“Ugh, don’t call them that,” she rolls her eyes. “I draw the line there,”
“That’s what they are,” I laugh.
“I’m not denying it. I just–eww,” she waves me off. “Look, I’m not too happy about any of this. I get it. I mean I don’t. I’m not like you, but I-” She stands up and links her fingers together in front of her. “Did you not think I would be suitable because I’m human?”
The question catches me off guard. Okay, so she understands what I’m trying to tell y, so she understands what I’m trying to tell her just fine. This should not be as simple as it’s turning out to be. When she snaps, I‘ m not going to know what to do to help her. I was a shitty mortal.
“No,” I answer her truthfully.
“Am I not your type?”
“You are fucking perfect. You are now and you were then,”
“So, why?” she looks up at me with tears in her eyes.
“Please, just know that I did it to protect you,” I swallow the knot forming in my throat.
I meant to walk away. I never wanted to know you. I didn’t mean to do what I did. It would have been better if we would have never met,”
She takes a step back and nods. Her tears spill over and without another word, she

spins around to head up the stairs where my room is. She doesn’t slam the door and I think the silence rips me apart worse than the morning I walked away.
My skin is tight and hot from how close she was. I get up and run out of the front door. I can’t shift in the house. One, I don’t want to wake the twins. Two, my mom would kill me if I fucked up her furniture.
I make it to the training grounds before I collapse. I cry out as my wolf rips at me from the inside. My bones break and take a form I have been running away from since I met her. My wolf knows she’s here. He’s scented our pups and he will no longer be ignored.
“Knightly,” my dad’s voice catches my attention. He sighs and comes over to me. “Fuck,” he kneels down in front of me and watches as the wolf fights his way out of me with everything he’s got. “It’s okay, son. I’m right here. I’ll watch them,” he places his hand on my head. “Let go, Knight. Let him out. You’ve punished yourself long enough,”
His words hurt just as much as seeing her cry knowing I’m the reason why there are tears there does. I deserved to be punished for what I’ve done to the two of them. I’ve only ever caused the people I love pain. I killed his daughter. My little sister. I killed his son. I abandoned my mate when she needed me the most. If suffering is all my wolf wants me to feel, it’s welcome. It’s not enough. It will never be enough.
