It’s been a long time since I’ve let my wolf out and he did what he usually does. He took control and when I opened my eyes I was lying in the middle of a field. At the very least, he didn’t leave the territory. It’s probably because the pups are here and our mate. Our very human mate.
Getting back to the packhouse was difficult. My body is sore, but the more I move the better I feel. It was a little past four in the morning when I got back and I panicked when I didn’t see them in my room. With my newly found senses, I scented her to the room down the hall. I had to see them and when I opened the door to peek inside, the twins were asleep.
Phoebe was sitting on the floor next to the coffee table with her back to me. She had her headphones on as she worked on two different laptops. I went back to my room and cleaned up. It’s surreal having her sit at my table. Even more, sitting here with Ayrie on my lap as she eats off my plate.
My wolf isn’t itching to overpower me right now. He’s calm. Watching her. Taking her in. Aizen must sense him because he looks at me as if he wants to approach but he’s wry. He has really good instincts. It was one of the first things I noticed. He hasn’t taken his eyes off me and Ayrie.
My wolf takes pride in the innocent way she approaches us. How she lets us feed her. How she can’t stop talking. Once in a while, she’ll toss a question at her brother to include him and he’ll play along. The wolf likes that he’s protective of her. Of both of them, because he hasn’t left our mate’s side. He’s taking in details and I’m here for it. This is the first time we’re on the same page and I’m enjoying his demeanor.
“Grandma said you have a puppy,” Aizen says.
The accent throws me off. This is the first time he addresses me so I never really caught onto it. Ayrie’s is much worse. It gets insanely cute when she gets excited and tries to get something out in a single breath.
“Uncle Idiot said he is the puppy,” Ayrie says with confidence making us all laugh.
“Elliot,” Phoebe corrects her. She’s the only one who doesn’t laugh, but she’s fighting it.
“She met Elliot?” I ask after she corrects herself.
“Yeah, he came to welcome you home. We showed the twins the animals,” Mom answers. “He headed back to the city last night,”
“I’m sorry I missed him,”
“Me too. He is so funny,” Ayrie nods. “I misses him too,”
“You liked him?” I can’t help my smile.
“Mhm, he’s your brother. Like Aizen is mine,” she points at him with a piece of bacon. “And Auntie Tessa is your baby sister,”
“That’s right. Do you like her?”
“She’s fun. She let me braid her hair. Mommy don’t let me do that no more,”
“And I would recommend for you guys not to let her either,” Phoebe tucks her hair behind her
ear.
“I had to
all off the last time,”
“That’s something you might want to inform us of sooner,” Tessa looks at her wide–eyed. We all laugh when Ayrie lets out an evil little laugh.
“What did you do to Mommy?” I ask.
“Nothing,” she giggles.
“She crazy glued stickers and beads in her braids,” Aizen snickers.
“And she looked like a princess,” Ayrie defends herself. “Now she’s Mulan. I want Pochantas,”

“It was my fault I left the glue out. I had been working on her Lava Girl costume,” Phoebe rolls her eyes. “But that’s not the only time I’ve had to cut something out of my hair. Don’t let her brush your hair with any kind of comb,”
“You’re naughty.” Tessa teases.
“No,” Ayrie sings playfully. “I’m a princess good girl,”
“No,” Aizen sings mocking her. She takes a piece of egg, and using her middle finger she flicks it across the table with insane accuracy. Aizen barely manages to dodge it.
“Ayrie,” Phoebe levels her with a glare and she immediately presses her back against me.
“Sorry, Icy,” she says quietly.
“Did you see that?” Tessa mouths trying to hide her laughter. My parents don’t hide how much they enjoyed that.
“We don’t play with our food,” I say taking a napkin to clean her hand.
“Are you mad, D.A.D.?” I rather she calls me daddy, but this is just as cute.
“No, but I will be if you do it again,” I meet her gaze.
“Je vous promets que je ne le ferai pas,” she rushes out. I look up at Phoebe.
“She says she promises it won’t happen again,” she explains. Ayrie slides off my lap and crawls under the table to go to her. She leans in and whispers in her ear. “Non, il ne repartira plus” she whispers something else. “Nous allons rester ici pendant un petit moment,”
“Why? I want to go home,” Aizen says and glares at me from across the table. “Il me fait peur,”
Phoebe looks up at me and sighs.
“We’re going to excuse ourselves for a minute,” she says and takes them away.
“Translation?” I ask.
“Ayrie thinks you’re going to leave because she was naughty and asked when they were going home. Phoebe told her they were staying here for a while and Aizen said he was scared of you,” Tessa repeats.
“He’s got good instincts,” My Dad is quick to try and make me feel better. “He’ll warm up to you,”
“Thank you for breakfast,” I get up and kiss my mom and sister on the head before giving my Dad a squeeze on his shoulder. His hand immediately comes up to pat mine.
“Try appeal to him a little more, Knight. He likes animals. He’s very gentle, but also very aware of his surroundings. He’s not too different from you,” he advises.
“Thanks, Dad,” I say and head up to my room.
“It is always fucking awesome when Knight visits,” Tessa laughs.
“Shut up, you’re brother isn’t here for your amusement,” Dad growls.
I head up to my room. His scent is strongest. His fear is a soft hot caramel scent. I have every intentiorf of giving them some space but I stop when I reach for the door and quietly move closer to their room.
The only sound I hear is her low humming. I crouch down and push the door open as quietly as I can to see her sitting in the center of the bed. Aizen is wrapped around her while she runs her fingers through his hair Ayrie is resting her head on her lap playing with the bear that brought us together. I quietly pull the door to how she left it and stand.

I glare at my mother when i turn to find her standing behind me. She points at the door urging me to go inside. I don’t move a muscle. She growls lowly and points at the door again. Now, she mouths. I sigh and turn back to the door. This is all kinds of messed up. I don’t know what to do. She then taps on the door and then takes off running. I have to remind myself that she’s my mother.
With no other choice, I push the door open to see her looking up at me. She sets Aizen down next to Ayrie and tells them not to make a mess. She comes over to me and steps out of the room without shutting the door all the way.
“I’m sorry. They’re not used to other people being around like this. That’s my fault. I’m super protective,” she clears her throat.
“I should be the one apologizing. I-” I crank my neck until it pops.
“Are you okay?” she places her hand on my arm and I feel it the way I did when we first met. The burst of energy of our bond. It takes my breath away and
I take a step back. She crosses her arms over her chest, but she doesn’t seem to take offense.
“I haven’t-“I swallow the growl my wolf pushes on me for breaking contact with her. “I haven’t been a werewolf since-”
“Is there something I can do to help?” she asks.
I search her face to see that she’s serious. Her pretty dark blue eyes are filled with concern for me and I don’t know what the fuck to do with that.
“I have to learn to control him again. There will be times when I have to go away because of that,”
