Being in my office feels strange for the first time in my life. This had always been my safe haven. The place where I always come up with a solution to any problem, but like the first time I met Knightly, I’ve been completely blindsided once again.
I had to call Xo this morning to inform her what’s going on and she’ll be here later tonight to meet with Knightly, his parents, and me to figure out where we all stand. It feels a little dumb to be working when it feels like my world is about to implode..
It was Knightly’s idea for me to come in today so no one suspects a thing. He sent Tessa with me and Tessa brought her friends. They’re making themselves at home around the office while I deal with my meetings. He has the twins and sends me an update every couple of hours. I made him swear not to take them out in public unless he was bringing them to me.
“Your presentation killed,” Cevin says breaking the silence.
I’m usually playing music and working on my new designs to take a break from the computer, but I can’t today. Not with everything Knightly admitted to I’m not a shifter and I can’t even begin to understand everything he had to give up for me, but the expression on his face was heart–wrenching, Pain, guilt, fear, all things that would drive anyone to the cliff he nearly jumped off.
Fuck, it would have been devastating to hear he had died a horrible death. And it would have been everywhere for a very long time. The man is an icon and would have been mourned by millions.
“Thanks, the workers seemed happy,” I offer half–heartedly.
“Are you kidding? They just got a raise and direct deposit. Not to mention the new schedules and the hire–ons. You know who is going to have the greatest sleep of his life tonight?”
“Sully,” I laugh. ”
“You don’t seem too happy about coming back to kick some ass, Phoebs,”
“I am. I love this. You know that. I just have a lot on my mind with Knightly back in my life and then what happened with Kendra and Ruin,” I admit.
“Does that mean you know?” he whispers. I nod. “I’m sorry I didn’t tell you sooner,”
“It wasn’t your secret to tell. I’m just a naive mortal,” I laugh. He smiles.
“You’re a mortal, but there is nothing naive about you. I knew I liked you for some reason,”
“And what reason would that be?” I roll my eyes.
“You’re a Luna,” he says softly.
“I’ve heard them call Maria that. What does that mean exactly?”
“Well,” he shrugs and rocks in the moon chair back and forth. “You know what an alpha is now, right?”
“Yes,”
“The alpha is king. We follow because we know he’s going to try his best to protect us and give us all–purpose. He’s the ultimate father figure. Not just to his kids, but to all the kids. He walks the path first to make sure it’s safe and a Luna is everything else.
“She’s our mother. The one that makes sure that the alpha knows we’re all safe. She empowers him. He provides, but she takes what he gives and shares it with all of us. She’s loving and understanding. Warm and inviting. Just like you,”
“Do you know who Knightly is?”
“Everyone knows who Knightly is,” he grins. “Everyone knows who Arnold is too. If there wasn’t already a king of alphas, that motherfucker would be it. He’s rich, strong as fuck, and ruthless,”

“Are we talking about Arnold Grimly?” I ask.
“Yeah,” he nods.
“Fuck my life,” I sit back. “He’s the richest man in the world,”
“He wishes, but he certainly has the ego,” he scoffs.
“How do we survive something like that?” I ask myself.
“The only way wolves know how, Mama. You take out the threat,” he stands up and takes a knee next to me. “You’re not alone. A lot of people know you. A lot of people love you. And him. His family is very well respected. They do a lot for our community and I’m sure that everyone appreciates that Knightly isn’t like his piece of shit father.
“Wolves are loyal to those who are loyal to them. It’s the one thing that fuck doesn’t have. Everyone is afraid of him. They know what he did to Knight and Maria and when they hear your story, things will only work in our favor,”
“Our?”
“Yeah, our. Because there is no way in hell I’m not going to be on your side. You’ve taken me to places I can’t even pronounce, Mama. When I met you, I was just some stupid gay kid with daddy issues. I can proudly say that I am now a proud gay man that can give less fucks if my dad hates me for being myself. I owe you that,”
“I don’t know what I would have done if you had tried to screw me over like Kendra did,”
“Kendra is an alpha’s daughter. And her father is deep in Arnold’s pockets. I should have told you not to tell anyone. I’m so sorry you had to go through that with the twins,” he takes my hand.
The doors open and the twins run inside. Knightly freezes in the doorway when his eyes land on us. Cevin immediately stands up and takes a step back. Okay, this looks bad. A little too intimate if we’re being honest, but Cev has been my best friend for seven years now.
“Mommy!” the twins run to me. Ayrie jumps onto my lap without hesitation.
“Hi, baby,” I greet her. “What are you guys doing here?”
“Daddy said we can have ice cream,” she holds her hand up excitedly. Knightly turns around and walks away.
“Cev, can you watch them for a second?”
“Yes,” he nods. He looks scared out of his mind.
“Knight,” I call after him. I run into the elevator with him just as the doors shut. He’s breathing hard. His eyes are pitch black. “Hey,”
“Don’t,” he growls at me when I reach for him. I tuck my hands behind my back.
“Cevin is my assistant,”
“Mhm,” he nods. 1 gasp when something pushes against his neck from inside of him. I don’t know what that is but it pushes against his skin stretching it. It looks like he’s in a lot of pain. He stops the elevator to try and get a hold of himself.
“He’s been my friend since before you and I even met and he’s gay,” I try to calm him. “I know his husband,”
“Angel,” he growls and suddenly I’m pressed against the elevator doors with his body pressed against mine. His teeth are so long. His eyes are pitch black and his hands are claws now. Okay, that is going to scar you in some way, Phoebe. The question is how?
“I’m sorry,” I whisper. His arm wraps around my waist and he buries his face in my neck as he takes deep breaths. Slowly, I reach up to put my arms around him hoping this will settle him.
“Mine,” his chest rumbles. I squeak when my back hits the door. “You’re mine,”
