Knightly
11 could kiss you right now and never stop, slips from my lips. Her eyes water and her already flushed skin gets darken
“Hmm?” she gives me a second chance to reword my intrusive thoughts
“I would love to,” I nod. “I’m sure my parents would be thrilled”
“Good, she squeaks and tries to escape. I stop her.
“Would you like to go to dinner with me tonight? Just the two of us?”
“Is that I’m what?” she studders.
“Would you like to go to dinner with me tonight?”
“Like dinner dinner or a date?” she asks skeptically.
“This is a date, Angel, I grin at her reaction.
She stares at me long enough for me to feel completely insecure about asking. Did I choose the wrong time to ask? Was i wrong to? The suspense is killing me and she’s just standing there with a blank expression giving nothing away. My heart is starting to race and I immediately feel like an asshole.
“Sure, okay,” she finally nods. I release the breath I didn’t know I was holding
“You don’t have to if you’re not comfortable with it, I shake my head.
“That’s not it,” she laughs. “I just it’s been like three years since the last time I went on a date and it ended with me breaking my knuckles on that asshole’s face when he kissed me,”
My wolf pushes along my neck at the mention of her getting hurt and someone touching her without her permission in the same sentence. I groan trying to keep him back, but she takes notice and places her hands on my chest.
“I’m sorry,” I breathe through it.
“It’s okay,” she says wrapping her arms around me. It takes him no time to settle down. She lets me hold her without pulling away. I don’t know how long we stand here until we hear a crashing sound inside the room. “You okay?”
“Yes,” I nod.
She doesn’t hesitate to push the door open. Aizen freezes when he sees us standing here. He stops picking up the paint squares on the floor and Ayrie who is holding the box that contains the paints looks just as spooked.
“What are you doing?” she asks
“Nothing,” they both blurt out at the same. She places her hands on her hips and the two of them scurry to pick up what they dropped.
“I am going to inform my parents that we have a trip tomorrow and that they’ll be babysitting tonight,”
“I feel like I take advantage of Maria,” she says looking back at me. She’s serious.
“Believe me, Angel. If anyone is taking advantage, it’s her,”
I look down at the envelope to see my name written in perfect script in the center. I turn it around and smile at the sticker of
a paw print on the back. I take it downstairs to my dad’s study to find him there typing away at his computer.
“Everything okay?” he asks. “How is Phoebe doing?”
‘Good. They’re good,”
“I think we should consider ourselves lucky she hasn’t run for the hills,” he sighs
“Where’s Mom?”
“Somewhere. Did you need her?”
“Just wanted to talk to you guys,” I nod. He immediately takes his phone out to text her
“He didn’t scare her too much did he?”
“I think she kind of liked him, I admit. He growls annoyed but doesn’t comment on it.
I’m here,” Mom bursts into the room. “Right her
“I was wondering if you guys could watch the: Successfully unlocked! ight? I made reservations for me and Phoebe,”
“It’s Phoebe and me, my mom corrects me. “And duh,”
“She also got us tickets for Ayrie’s un–birthday celebration tomorrow,” I say holding up the tickets.
“Her what?” Dad asks.
“Un–birthday. She told me this super cute story about the twins sharing their birthday party last year. It was Shark Boy and Lava Girl themed. One of the other little girls from their class had a princess party and only the boys went. So, Ayrie asked if she could have an un–birthday party so she could have her own princess–themed party. Like the Alice In Wonderland song”
“Oh, no,” my mom puts her hand over her chest.
“So, we’re going to Disneyland in the morning. She got us tickets,”
“That is the cutest thing ever,” she coos and snatches the envelope out of my hands. “Does this mean we get to see whatever she’s hiding in that little pink vintage trunk?”
“You mean the dress?”
“She showed it to you?” she hits me with the back of her hand. “I bet it’s gorgeous,”
“It is. I’ve never seen anything like it,” I admit. “I caught her working on it a couple of times now,”
“I love her. She’s I don’t know. I just love her. I’m a big fan,” she looks down at the envelope and sighs happily.
“I have something important to tell you guys,”
“You got her pregnant again? Good for you,” she smacks me again.
“Maria, Dad sighs.
“No,” I groan. “I’ll be more careful when it does happen again and I’d like for her to be marked before we even consider more of them,
“Good,” Dad nods. “Tell us what’s on your mind.”
“Her mother was Anastasia Rizen,” I rip the bandaid clean off. The two of them stand staring back at me the way I expected them to. “I know. She told me on the way back over here. Her dad asked her to tell me,”
“Oh, my god,” my mother blurts out. I’ve never heard her use that phrase before. “Fuck,” that I hear come out of her mouth a lot. “Are you serious?”
“That’s what she said,
“Alpha Rizen is not going to be happy,” My Dad sits back. “He’s not happy about it now,”
“What do you mean?” I ask,
“He takes care of the NorCal wolves. He owns a lot of the businesses in Pismo, Fuck, he’s not going to like this at all. If there’s anyone who hates Arnold more than us it’s Antone,”
“Oh, my god,” my mom bursts into laughter. “That is insane. There is no way you stumbled into a princess, knocked her up. and just walked away. That’s mental,”
“Mom
“Ya le dejiste?”
“No, I have not told her I groan. I’d like to hold off in spirling her life more than I already have. She’s just barely warming up to the idea of us and I don’t want her pulling away”
“Of course,” my dad agrees
“We should prepare for the spectacle Arnold is going to make of this,” my mom changes the subject. “It’s only a matter of time before he snaps and goes after the babysitter for what they did to Ayrie. If I have to guess, he’s going to publically humiliate Xo, and he’s going to have your sisters do it,”
“Fuck her. She deserves that after what she did,” I scoff. “I’m not stopping him,”
“We know that she deserves it, Knight, but think of how Phoebe will react. She’s hurt right now, but she’s not going to be okay with it. Xochil and Phoebe are friends. They have history. She might be one of us but she was raised human. She’s getting an idea of how things work for us, but she’s got a kind heart.
“I’d talk to your father if I thought he’d listen to me,” my dad comes around his desk to put his arm around me. “And tell him if speaks about your mother the way he did again, I’m going to kill him. Nice and slow.”
