We’ve slowly gone through each room to put everything together. She’d even included some of my things around the house. Things I’ve collected from every location I’ve toured in all around the world. A world that has brought me back to this peak. It’s always felt like a beacon and I’ve ignored for so long that being here again is surreal
When Phoebe returns from signing the twins into class, I ask, “Do you have anythis planned for today?”
“Not particularly. I was hoping to go into the city, see if I can find anything on Ayrie’s list. Do you know what a Space Molly one thousand is?”
“She wants one?” Haugh.
“Two. They’re different, I think, and lamps,”
“Yeah, the big ones usually are,” I nod. “They’re rare collectibles. Give me their names and I ask Violetta. She’s insane about the popmart shit. She has every series on the little monster things they have,”
“What are they?
“Figures.”
“Like toys?”
“No, like weird shit grandmas collect but new age. I guess,”
“So, they’re going to cost me?”
“Oh, yeah,” he smirks.
“I don’t understand collecting things. I get tired of stuff easily. I want to get a new bedroom set because the one I have now is stupid small for my room. It looks empty.”
“My mom has never done anything simple. If you think my room in the pack house is ridiculous, you should see her room, “I just felt a chill go down my back,” she laughs. “I believe you,”
“I’d like to show you some of the hiding spots around the property. Your training won’t begin until after you shift. Rizen wolves are peculiar. Especially the females. Your bloodline is connected to the original tribes here in the US.
“Your family is located up north towards Pismo. They’re what we call traditionalists. They do things the old way. They adapt into modern society, however, their laws are a lot worse than in this pack. They’re meant to keep the peace among the packs and those who don’t adhere to them are put down or wiped out,”
“Perry said she’ll get into the traditionalists packs in two more memory chips. She said being friends with Violetta and her brother Vincent was imperative and that he is a traditionalist in Magique City. She hates him,”
“Perry is the poster child of innovation. She’s created a lot of the coding that programs a lot of the tech the world uses at the moment,
“She’s crazy smart for someone who seems to be high most of the time,”
“She’s not. She smokes to calm down. She can work on four to six things at once and it spins out. Perry does that so that not just anyone can decipher her work. Her two top personality traits are violence and paranoia. It’s a phase she’s going through, she’s trying to be a good girl for her mate. She feels guilty for nearly turning him feral,”
“Thought you said her mate passed,”
“Her wolf mate. She’s a lycan now,”
“That’s right, the lycan queen. I’m not sure what that is,”
“They’re also shifters. Just immortal and a lot bigger. They are just what they are. No spirit to guide their instincts like us,”
“Wow and she’s never going to die?”
“Not unless she’s killed,” I confirm
“My guess is that they’re not easy to kill?”
“Nope and they have crazy powers. Perry and Jonas can probably go up against a high–ranked coven of vampires alone,”
“Is Perry your best friend?” she smirks.
“They all are. It’s not easy being the alpha in or Successfully unlocked! that looks out for all of us because she doesn‘
I have anyone else but us. The rest of us have.

We arrive back at the house. I love the way she’s taken to settling in and changing things to her liking. Especially her study. My mother is going to love the changes she’s made.
“Come on, I offer her my hand once she’s set everything down.
Relief floods me when she takes my hand without thinking about it lead her out through the back door and hear down to the beach I haven’t slept since we’ve arrived. She’s twenty four hours away from shifting and not once has she complained about aches or pains. That means her pain tolerance is higher than most. It means she’s not a stranger to it. I’m driving my wolf insane thinking about it and he’s keeping me up to listen in on her breathing and irregular heart beat
“It’s so pretty here,” she whispers as we get closer to the West Peak
“Here, I don’t want you to push yourself tonight,” I stop and crouch down
“You want me to get on your back?” she asks. Tm okay to jump rocks,”
“Some rocks are further than others. I don’t want you to strain yourself. Tomorrow is the full moon and your wolf is going to need you well rested.”
She looks away but then agrees and wraps her arms around my neck. She lifts her thigh and I use it to lift her up properly She wraps her legs around my body and squeezes. I can hear the rush of her blood and her body getting hotter against my back
“I can hear your smugness, she says resting her head on my shoulder. I can’t help the side
I tighten my hold on her and step back a bit to gain speed. She locks her body around me. The delighted giggle she lets out is just as cute as when Ayrie loses her composure. As soon as I get to the entrance of the cave, I loosen my hold, and she takes it as an okay to get down.
“I can see in here, she says looking into the entrance. “Is this a tunnel?”
“Yeah, it leads out to the pier, I point up ahead. There are several areas where you can stay for extended periods of time. There’s dried food, water, equipment, and weapons. Four rooms on the right, six on the left.
She stares at me for a moment and nods, motioning me forward to continue. Her expression gives nothing away. She follows closely after me. I get to the first door and punch in the date for the night we met. The door springs open and the lights inside come on revealing the small living space inside. She steps inside and looks around.
“Do they all have the same code?” she asks.
“Yes. The two of us are the only ones that know the code.”
I watch as she moves around the room checking the pantry and the cots. The weapons and the spare clothes.
“You’re missing first aid kits and flashlights,” she spins around. “You also need rope and knives. These” she pulls a handgun out of one of the duffle bags. “-Are great, but a more silent weapon would be better if the point is to hide out as long as possible..
“I paid for school because of my archery. The only cool thing my dad taught me was how to hunt and hide out. Adding to the theory that my mom paid him to look after me should something happen to her,”
“I don’t know how to feel about this, but I’m grateful for at the moment,” I admit.
“Have you ever had to use these?”
“Me, never. But my mom and my siblings did. That’s why I dug more. They could bunk in one, and once they’d dried out their resources, they could move to the next. Each room is the same. You’re right. I should add those things.”
“Would this be our lives if we were to join the packs?”
“Adding this territory to the pack would mean holding the most power in the entirety of the packs. We’d be the strongest. It s what I want to prevent. I do this, and my father kills Freddy, taking both packs. As both their heirs, if my father was able to take out the royal family, we’d take their position with my father as King. I’m not old enough to take the throne nor do I have the training for it,”

“Yeah, and I have to do it willingly. Otherwise, it could be considered abuse of the power and he’d have to be put down as a wolf in the feral roster. New laws courtesy of the new Werewolf King. He isn’t happy about Perry going feral and used as an experiment to create what is now known as a feral wolf army,”
“Do we have a plan?” she sighs and sits on the cot
“I do. A few actually.”
“Will you be sharing these things with me or am I just here because our pups connect us? I want to know what role it is you need me to take because this looks a lot worse than I thought it already was,”
I crouch down in front of her. The only way I can do this is if she knows the truth
“I don’t want, nor do I need you to take any role in any of this. I’m showing you all of this so you know it’s here I have no intention of letting anyone or anything near you or our kids. You can be whatever you want. So as long as you trust me, we re never going to have a problem”
“And you’re going to do what?”
“Do you really want to know even after everything you’ve learned?”
“Is this really the life you want us to live? Half here and half in whatever the fuck you’re going to be out doing? That’s not
going to cut it for me, Nathan. Marked or not, I don’t want a half assed obligation,”
