The day Gabriel Foster came looking for me, I was drinking with Connor Chen in a corner of the bar.
Perhaps something had gotten stuck in my hair. He carefully removed it for me.
Then Gabriel rushed over, pulled me behind him protectively.
He glared fiercely at Connor.
“Who are you? Don’t you know she’s my fiancée?”
Connor chuckled.
“I don’t know who she is to you, but I know she’s the person I want to protect for the rest of my life.”
As soon as he finished speaking, Connor punched Gabriel to the ground.
Gabriel got up wanting to return the punch.
I stepped in front of him without a moment’s hesitation.
“Gabriel Foster, I think I’ve made myself very clear. Please stop disrupting my life.”
Gabriel’s expression was indescribably complex – sorrow, helplessness.
“Aria, I know I was wrong. I misunderstood you and did those terrible things. I deserve to die. You can hit me if you want. I’ll do anything as long as you forgive me.”
Hearing his words, I couldn’t help but laugh.
“Gabriel Foster, not everything can be forgiven. When you agreed to ruin my reputation, you lost the right to my forgiveness.”
“The thing I regret most in this life is ever loving you!”
Gabriel probably never expected me to be so resolute. His body trembled slightly, his legs giving way as he fell to his knees.
“Aria, do you hate me that much?”
“No, I don’t hate you. You’re just a stranger to me now, someone I feel nothing for.”
Gabriel stared at me wide–eyed, his mouth quivering, unable to utter a word.
The next second, Zoe brought Max over.
Max ran urgently in front of me, shielding me behind him.

“Bad guy, who are you? Why are you bullying my mommy? I’m going to have the police arrest you.”
Gabriel’s already complicated emotions became even more tumultuous. He pointed at Max, trembling.
“Is he… Aria’s son?”
Max nodded proudly.
“Of course. My daddy is right here. His name is Connor Chen. My daddy is way more handsome than you. My mommy would never like you.”
With that, Max pulled me towards the car.
As the car started, Gabriel’s desperate cries rang out behind us.
“Aria, don’t leave me!”
“Aria, don’t leave me!”
“Aria, don’t leave me!”
My mind was in chaos. I leaned against the car window with my eyes closed, not wanting to think about anything.
Max thoughtfully massaged my temples.
“Mommy Aria, it’s a good thing Auntie and I came in time. That bad guy was so annoying.”
I smiled and patted his head.
“Thank you, our little Max.”
Connor smiled happily through the rearview mirror.
“Our Max is so great!”
After getting home, Connor didn’t get out of the car, but asked me to go somewhere with him.
It was a very spacious grassland with nothing around.
I looked at him in confusion.
“Why did you bring me here?”
Connor smiled and covered my eyes with his hands.
“I’ll count to three, then you can open your eyes, okay?”
“One”
“Two”
“Three”
I slowly opened my eyes. Fireworks exploded in the sky right above us.
Looking at the brilliant display, I couldn’t help but smile.
Then Connor pulled out a ring from somewhere.
“Aria, I’ve never liked anyone before. But I heard from Zoe that there’s a saying – if you propose to the one you love under fireworks, your wish will definitely come true.”

“Will you marry me?”
