I burst out laughing at this awkward confession.
Pretending to be serious, I coughed a couple times.
“Connor Chen, don’t you know you’re supposed to ask a girl to be your girlfriend first, date for a while, then propose when you think she’s ready? You’re skipping way too many steps!”
Connor smiled awkwardly.
“I just felt like I wanted to marry you and make you my wife, so I proposed. If you’re not willing, I can confess to you properly next time…”
“I do.”
Before he could finish, I gently extended my hand.
I dated Gabriel Foster for eight years, but he schemed against me for eight years.
Connor was different. He truly wanted to marry me.
So what if we were moving a bit faster than others?
The next day, news of overseas Chinese tycoon Connor Chen’s successful proposal spread throughout Melbourne.
Even many financial news outlets back home reported on it.
When Gabriel Foster heard the news, he came to my little bar with the massive diamond he had bought for me back then.
I glanced at him sideways, not pausing my drink mixing, and said coldly:
“Gabriel Foster, I’m getting married. Can you please stop bothering me?”
“Aria, I know you’re still angry with me. You loved me so much, how could you not want me anymore? This is the diamond ring I bought for you. I just never had the chance to put it on your finger…”
I looked up, then chuckled.
“You had two sets of wedding preparations, two wedding dresses. I suppose this ring comes in pairs too…”
“It’s not like that, Aria. I never intended to release those videos. On our wedding day, I truly meant to marry you. I never liked Chloe.”
Gabriel’s voice became a bit choked up.
“If she hadn’t framed you, saying you instigated the kidnappers to kill my mom, I would never have done those things to hurt you. Aria, you were always the only one in my heart.”
“I can’t live without you. Please don’t leave me, okay?”
Listening to Gabriel’s heartfelt confession, my heart remained as still as dead water.
slowly walked over and took the ring from his hand.
Gabriel’s eyes brightened for a moment.
The next second, I threw the ring on the ground.
“Gabriel Foster, I no longer care for your love.”
bout looking back Robind me Gabriel knelt on the ground like a child who had lost his love clutching
the ring tightly.
Tears streamed down his face uncontrollably.
Outside, Connor naturally took my hand, asking dotingly:
“What do you want to eat today? I’ll make it for you when we get home.”
“Sweet and sour pork ribs.”
“No problem!”
A month later, Connor and I held our wedding in Shangri–La, Yunnan.
He said it was the closest place to heaven, where even the gods would bless us.
The wedding venue was decorated very warmly, with a light blue theme – just the style I liked.
I wore the wedding dress he made for me by hand, feeling for the first time what it was like to be cherished.
Connor’s parents, Zoe, and Max all came to give us their blessings.
Connor held my hand as we slowly walked towards the stage step by step.
The officiant asked: “Connor, do you take Aria to be your lawfully wedded wife, to have and to hold, in sickness and in health, to love and cherish, till death do you part?”
“I do.”
“Aria, do you take Connor to be your lawfully wedded husband, to have and to hold, in sickness and in health, to love and cherish, till death do you part?”
“I do.”
The whole wedding went very smoothly. I had thought Gabriel might come and make a scene, but he never showed up even after the ceremony ended.
Later I heard from Zoe that Connor had been keeping tabs on Gabriel’s mòvements since half a month before the wedding.
On the wedding day, Gabriel had gathered dozens of men, planning to crash the ceremony.
But before they even reached the entrance, Connor’s people surrounded and captured them all.
The whole group was sent to the police station.
Gabriel was stuck at the station giving his statement, unable to do anything no matter how anxious he was.
A year later, Connor and I welcomed the birth of our twins.
A boy and a girl.
Connor was so excited he didn’t go to the office for several months.
Zoe teased him, saying if this was ancient times, he’d already be labeled an incompetent ruler.
Connor just laughed it off, even mocking her for being single and unable to understand the happiness of married life.
In the end, I had to urge him several times to go earn milk money for the kids. If the company went bankrupt, his son and daughter would have nothing to eat.

When the twins turned one, Connor insisted on throwing a big first birthday party.
He invited thousands of guests from all over.
With so many people, I couldn’t even keep track of who came.
However, with just one glance, I spotted Gabriel Foster’s gift on the gift table.
The bag contained two longevity locks, that ring I had thrown away, and a company share transfer agreement.
I packed everything back in the gift bag and tossed it in the trash bin, untouched.
Not far away, Gabriel was curled up in a corner, his whole body convulsing with sobs.
I knew he must be nearby.
My son and daughter toddled over to me, babbling “Mama” with their little voices.
In that moment, all my happiness became tangible.
I held our daughter, Connor held our son, and Max stood between us hugging our legs. The photographer took a family portrait of us.
The next day, besides the news of a famous entrepreneur throwing a lavish first birthday party for his twins, there was another headline about Gabriel Foster.
“Business tycoon Gabriel Foster, aged 35, died in spring 2025. In his final moments, he was found clutching a diamond ring.”
The bloody hand in the photo was tightly gripping the very ging I had thrown away twice.
Seeing these two pieces of news, the turbulent emotions in my heart were known only to me.
From that day on, Gabriel Foster no longer existed in this world.
As for me, I will spend the rest of my life with Connor, through good times and bad.
We still have year after year ahead of us.
