Chapter 12 The Report

Even though I had treated the burns, the pain was still unbearable. I tossed and turned in bed, unable to find any comfort or sleep.
“I’m sorry, Aly. I can’t help you.” Nova’s faint voice drifted to me.
“It’s okay, Nova. I’m just not strong enough,” I whispered, trying to reassure her. Deep down, I knew I wouldn’t be here for much longer.
Restless and unable to shut my eyes, I dragged myself out of bed and began collecting my things.
It took all night, but I managed to clear everything related to Lucas from the room.
The countless gifts that had been sent and returned, the scarf I had painstakingly knitted, and the prayers I had offered to the Moon Goddess on his behalf ….
I packed everything into boxes and threw it all out.
Just as I finished, Lucas walked in. His gaze locked onto the discarded items, and he shouted, “What are you doing?”
I wiped the sweat from my brow. Honestly, I was exhausted and had no energy to deal with him.
“I’m getting rid of things I don’t need.”
I noticed a slight change in his expression, and for some reason, it made me almost smile.
Lucas looked furious now. He probably believed I was the one responsible for Evelyn’s injury and collapse. I stood there silently, watching him, waiting for what he would do next.
“I’m warning you one last time. Don’t hurt Evelyn again, or you’ll face the consequences!”
Consequences? What would he possibly do?
Lock me up and torture me to death?
I’d already been through that once.
I lowered my head, glancing at my wounds, and barely managed to mutter, “I won’t do that ever again.”
After that, I turned to go back to my room, but Lucas stopped me.
“Do you have a birthmark?”
I hesitated for a moment before slowly turning to face him, my voice flat. “No.”
That birthmark had been the last trace of the Whites on me. But it was completely gone now, burned away in the fire.
I couldn’t tell if it was just my imagination, but after hearing my answer, Lucas seemed to let out a sigh of relief.
I had no idea what he was thinking, but maybe he was just glad I didn’t have that birthmark.
Maybe no one wanted me to be the lost child of the Whites.
They probably believed such coincidences couldn’t possibly happen.
But what a coincidence it was. I believed it was all the will of the Moon Goddess. Too bad the Whites and Lucas were too blind, manipulated by Evelyn’s schemes, not seeing the true guidance of the Moon Goddess.
The next morning, I was woken by a commotion downstairs.
When I opened my door, I overheard the old butler scolding the Omegas.
“Today isn’t just any day. Get it together and don’t screw this up.”
Chapter 12 The Report
A younger Omega, curious, asked, “What’s so special about today?”

“It’s the anniversary of Ms. White’s disappearance, and our Alpha and the Whites are always in a bad mood on this day.”
Hearing this, the young Omega looked even more confused.
“So why all the gifts?”
“She’s been missing for over ten years. Our Alpha and Mr. White still haven’t moved on. Every year, for different holidays, they prepare all sorts of gifts and send them to the old house the Whites used to live in.”
The old house?”
Yeah, after Ms. White went missing, the Whites couldn’t bear the sadness, so they moved out of that house. Now, it’s just full of things that remind them of her, waiting for the day she comes back so they can make up for lost time.”
Everyone seemed touched by the story, sighing about how deeply the Whites and the Alpha cared.
I stood there quietly, my eyes filled with a hint of mockery.
After I washed up, I went to the DNA testing center, picking up a cake along the way.
When I got back, 1 lit the candles, ready to make a wish. But before I could close my eyes, Lucas’s voice, sharp with anger, cut through the air from behind me.
“I told you, no celebrations today. How dare you celebrate your birthday!”
Right then, Alexander stepped forward, smashing the cake into my face, his expression cold. “You’re going to celebrate on the anniversary of my sister’s disappearance! Alicia Winter, you’re disgusting.”
As I stared at the ruined cake, my mind raced.
When I was seven. I went missing and was later adopted by an old lady, Patricia Winter. That was how I became Alicia Winter.
In the panic of that time, I’d developed a high fever and lost all memory of my past–my name, my family, my birthday. I couldn’t even hear my family calling for me.
Patricia had chosen the day she found me as my birthday.
Fourteen years had passed, and I still didn’t know my real birthday.
And now, even the
one day I could have celebrated had been taken away from me.
i smiled faintly, wiping the cake off my face.
I didn’t say anything. I just turned around and walked back to my room.
Before I went in, I heard Alexander’s voice, heavy with emotion.
“If my sister hadn’t gone missing, she’d be 21 this year
Lucas’s voice was low, “I’ll find her, I promise.”
I couldn’t help but curl my lips into a faint smile, because I knew he wouldn’t.
Soon, Alexander and Lucas would realize the person they had been searching for all these years was closer than they had thought.
But they would never find me again, because I would disappear from their world.
Just before they left with the gifts, I grabbed my suitcase, which I had already packed.
I placed the report on the table that read, “This report hereby confirms that Alicia Winter and Alexander White are biologically related.”
Then, with my suitcase in hand, I left the Obsidian Pack.
And I never looked back.
