As the family prepared to leave, the sound of high heels echoed from downstairs.

Chapter 14 Finally Going to Find Her
Alexander’s POV:
I observed Evelyn as she walked into the castle, her heels clicking sharply against the stone floors. She wore an outfit that was hard to ignore–classy but daring. Her makeup was perfectly applied, and a bright smile graced her face as she approached, her voice light and full of an energy that felt out of place. “There you are. Why is everyone ignoring me today?”
Was Evelyn unaware of the significance of toda
Her cheerfulness felt so wrong in this moment.
My wolf, Scott, was clearly unsettled by her attitude. I tried to steady him, reminding myself that Evelyn was still young and perhaps didn’t fully understand the weight of the situation.
1 frowned, attempting to keep my tone even despite the frustration simmering beneath the surface. “Evelyn, we have something important to take care of today. You should head back home for now.”
Her smile, faltered just slightly, before she pouted playfully. “What’s so important? Didn’t we promise to go on that trip? I already booked the tickets
My mother glanced at her, her voice cool, almost distant. “Evelyn, we really do have business today. We’ll go another time.”
I watched Evelyn’s expression change, her playful demeanor fading into one of genuine hurt. “No, that’s not fair! You promised me! You can’t just take that back. You have to go with me today!”
Scott was growing increasingly restless, his frustration now mingling with my own. He had never fully accepted the decision to adopt Evelyn.
His emotions bled into mine, and my voice hardened. “Evelyn! Stop this! There are more important matters right now!”
1 cursed silently, realizing I had raised my voice at her.
Evelyn recoiled, her eyes wide with shock. Her lips quivered as tears began to well up. “You’re yelling at me? How could you? I never thought you’d act like this!”
Luckily, Lucas stepped in, his presence calm yet firm. But even his tone carried a slight edge as he spoke, “Evelyn, stop. We really don’t have time for this today.”
Evelyn’s tears flowed freely now, her voice breaking with raw emotion. “What could be more important than me? I’m your daughter!”
At the mention of “daughter,” I saw my mother’s expression harden, her gaze turning cold. She spoke through gritted teeth, barely containing her anger, “Evelyn, don’t forget–you’re adopted. What we’re doing today is searching for our real daughter!”
The words hit Evelyn like a slap. Her face drained of color, and she stood there, trembling, her voice barely a whisper as she processed the harsh truth. “Y–you’re really going to look for her? What about me? What am I to you?”
I met her gaze, my voice void of any warmth. “Evelyn, stop. Right now, nothing is more important than finding her.”
Evelyn’s face crumpled, tears streaming down her cheeks as her voice thickened with despair. “How could you do this to me? I hate you all!”
Without another word, she spun on her heels and fled down the stairs, her sobs echoing through the empty hall.
My mother watched her leave, a fleeting moment of regret flashing across her face before it was quickly replaced with urgency
She turned to my father. “We need to leave now. Time is running out.”
My father nodded and then addressed me and Lucas. “You two stay here. If we find her, be ready for the return celebration. We’ll bring her back ourselves.”
Lucas and I shared a brief look, the excitement in our eyes unmistakable.

I nodded, my voice thick with anticipation. “Alright, we’ll get everything ready”
With that, my parents hurried off. Lacas and I immediately got to work. I pulled out my phone and dialed a number. “Contact the best event planner. We’re throwing the grandest welcome–home party!”
Lucas, moving with focus, turned to the butler. “Prepare the car. We’re heading to the auction. Get the finest jewelry.”
The butler nodded and quickly set to work.
I ended the call, my eyes glowing with excitement. “Lucas, we’re finally going to find her!”
Lucas smiled, a rare tenderness softening his features. “Yeah, it’s happening. We’re finally going to find her”
We exchanged a determined glance and hurried out of the castle.
