Alexander’s POV:

The auction hall was lit up by the brilliant glow of crystal chandeliers, their light bouncing off the surfaces of priceless jewels and stunning artworks. The room seemed to shimmer with an almost magical energy, making everything inside feel alive with luxury.
Lucas sat next to me, his eyes focused intently on a necklace adorned with glowing emeralds. Each gemstone shone with a clarity that made it almost seem like it was holding the secrets of the heart.
“Five million,” he said firmly, raising his paddle to place a bid.
1 was taken aback–five million. He was serious.
I leaned in close, lowering my voice. “Lucas, this is the 72nd item. Are you sure you want to buy so many?”
Lucas didn’t even look up from the necklace, his tone filled with determination. “She deserves the best. After all these years, we owe her this. Besides, you’re buying just as much as I am.”
I glanced over at the pile of gifts piling up beside us, and a smile tugged at the corners of my mouth. “You’re right. The little princess of the Frostfang Pack deserves nothing less.”
“Exactly.” Scout chimed in, his voice almost upbeat. “I can’t wait to see her again.”
The auctioneer’s voice echoed across the hall, “Five million, going once, going twice
The necklace was carefully packed into a delicate box and handed over to Lucas.
Sold!”
He stared at it for a moment, his voice filled with a quiet hope. “Do you think she’ll like it?”
I gave him a reassuring pat on the shoulder. “As long as it’s from us, she’ll love it.”
Once the auction was over, Lucas and I headed to the city’s most luxurious mall.
The windows were filled with glamorous gowns, sparkling jewels, and all kinds of high–end goods that beckoned us from behind the glass.
“What do you think of this one? I pointed to a white gown, its skirt studded with diamonds that glittered like stars in a clear night sky.
Lucas nodded, a look of satisfaction on his face. “It’s perfect for her.”
The sales assistant smiled as she gently removed the dress from its display, wrapping it carefully.
I gestured toward the jewelry counter. “And those earrings, too. Pack them up.”
Lucas didn’t argue, though he added thoughtfully, “Pick out some everyday clothes too. She might not like flashy stuff,”
We spent the entire day at the mall, our hands full of presents. Every gift was an attempt to make up for the time we had lost. though I knew no material object could truly erase the years that had passed. Still, we were determined to give her the things she deserved, and this was the best way we knew how.
When we returned to the event site, Lucas and I immediately started finalizing the details for the welcome–home party— from the design of the stage to the menu, ensuring every detail would make a lasting impression.
We couldn’t help but imagine what it would be like when she walked into the ballroom–how she’d react, what she might say. And we couldn’t help but wonder, after all this time, what she looked like now.
On the night of the gala, the ancient castle had been transformed into an extravagant venue.
The crystal chandeliers illuminated the room with a warm glow, casting light on the guests, their jewels twinkling in the soft radiance like stars.

Lucas and I stood in the center of the ballroom, our gazes constantly shifting to the door, unable to hide the nervous energy building inside.
“Do you think Mom and Dad will bring her back?” I asked quietly, my voice tinged with uncertainty.
I’d also reached out to Scott for reassurance. I hadn’t had a mental connection with my parents lately, fearing of hearing bad
news.
Lucas pursed his lips, his expression somber. They will. After all these years, we finally have news. They won’t come back empty–handed.”
on
Scott reassured me too, his instincts telling him that this time, good news was finally on the way.
I nodded, nervously tracing the rim of my wine glass. My eyes were filled with a mix of emotions. “But… if she does come back, how do we face her? After all these years… Evelyn….
Lucas‘ face darkened, his voice low. “Evelyn is just a foster daughter. She’ll understand. We’ll make things right with her later.”
Just then, the ballroom doors creaked open.
Evelyn entered, wearing a soft pink gown, her eyes slightly red
She walked slowly, her gaze flicking to me and Lucas before she looked down. Her voice quivered with emotion. “Alexander. Lucas. I’m here.”
My excitement plummeted. Whywassheshowingupnow, ofalltimes?
1 frowned, frustration rising. “What are you doing here?”
Before I could say anything more, Evelyn’s tears began to fall. Her voice trembled with guilt. “I know I was wrong. Last time, I didn’t understand, and I shouldn’t have acted out. I’m just a foster daughter… Everything I’ve been given belongs to my sister… I’ll make sure we get along from now on. I won’t cause any more trouble.”
Lucas studied her, his eyes conflicted. T’m glad you think that way.”
Evelyn wiped her tears away and forced a weak smile. “I promise… I’ll treat her well.”
I nodded, my tone softening. “When Mom and Dad bring her back, you need to get along with her.”
Scott scoffed, his voice cold. “I don’t believe a word she says.”
Evelyn nodded quickly, her voice sweet and obedient. I will. Trust me, Alexander.”
The room fell silent again, everyone’s attention fixed on the door, waiting for the moment they’d all been anticipating. Finally, after what felt like an eternity, the doors opened again. My parents entered, but their faces were grim, devoid of any joy.
“Dad, Mom!” I rushed toward them, urgency in my voice. “Where is she? Why didn’t you bring her back?”
My mother’s lips trembled, her voice barely audible. “We… we couldn’t find her.”
“What?!” I could hardly believe the words. “How could you not find her? Didn’t you have any leads?”
My father’s voice was shaky, as though the weight of the news had drained him of all strength.
“We found the little pack. We tracked down the old lady who had taken her in… but she had passed away. We learned that she was Alicia’s grandmother”
