Chapter 24 Stand–In
Evelyn’s POV:
Three years ago, I fled from the Whites control.
I’d avoided prison, but escaping the Frostfang Pack made me a Rogue.
I had to live like a fugitive, constantly hiding, terrified someone would find me.

I slept under bridges and fought other Rogues for scraps of food. And to survive, I even became the mistress of an old, wealthy Rogue.
Every time I looked at those old men–naked, wrinkled, disgusting–I wanted to die.
I used to be the little princess of the Frostfang Pack.
How did it all fall apart the moment Charles’s biological daughter was found?
What made it worse–what I still couldn’t believe–was that the she–wolf I hated the most turned out to be his daughter.
Lately, the Frostfang Pack members–and Lucas–had been treating that little bitch Alicia like royalty.
Charles even named her the next Alpha of the Frostfang Pack! What did she do to deserve that? That pathetic girl didn’t have the strength or the brains!
What made me snap wasn’t just Charles’s announcement but the entire pack’s open embrace of her as the next Alpha.
That was supposed to be my future.
The jealousy consumed me completely. I didn’t even bother hiding anymore–I kidnapped Alicia.
Lucky for me, that idiot had practically zero defenses. I took her without a fight and even forced her wolf into a deep sleep.
“You think returning to the Frostfang Pack means you get to steal everything from me?” I screamed, wanting nothing more than to tear her apart. I’m telling you now–never! Everything in that pack is mine. Lucas is mine! You’re not taking any of
it!
I expected her to panic, maybe even beg. But Alicia? She just stared at me coldly.
That look–that damn look–drove me insane. I stormed over and ripped the tape off her mouth.
“Why are you looking at me like that?” I snapped. “You’re just some muit raised by an old Omega in a run–down pack. You think you can compete with me?”
But Alicia only smiled. That smug, victorious smirk on her face made me want to claw her eyes out. “Evelyn,” she said calmly, “you’re just a stand–in. What right do you have to shout at me?”
Stand–in?
No. No. No. How dare she call me that?
“You’re lying! I’m Charles’s daughter! I am!”
Why was she so calm? Why could she still mock me?
“Evelyn,” she said, still looking at me with that infuriating calmness, “deep down, you know the truth. You’re just an adopted girl. The Frostfang Pack was never yours
My body started to shake. Despair gripped me. Am I really nothing but a foster child my whole life?
“No… that’s not true… I am Charles’s daughter… I am!”
Yes. If Alicia died, then I’d be the only one left. Then, I would be his daughter.
Chapter 24 Stand–In
“Alicia, go to hell!”
I pulled out the silver dagger I’d hidden and lunged toward her.
But
just as the blade was about to pierce her chest, the warehouse door flew open with a violent kick.
“Stop!”
I heard voices I knew all too well–Lucas and Alexander rushed in, both of them furious and panicked.
Lucas was fast. He grabbed my wrist mid–swing, twisting hard until the dagger clattered to the floor.
The pain made me scream.
Alexander instantly stepped between me and Alicia, shielding her with his entire body.
“Evelyn, have you completely lost it?!” he shouted. His voice trembled with barely restrained rage and disbelief.
I thrashed in Lucas’s grip, struggling with everything I had. I screamed, hoping–begging–them to understand:
I’m Charles’s daughter! I’m Alexander’s sister! I am! Alicia stole my life! She doesn’t deserve it!”

But Alexander didn’t even flinch. “Evelyn,” he said coldly, “you’re still blind to the truth. You were adopted. If you’d stayed in your place, the Frostfang Pack would’ve welcomed you. But you kept trying to hurt Alicia. You’ve proven repeatedly–you’re
not one of us.”
His words hit me like a blade through the heart. Was all that love they once showed me fake?
I didn’t want to believe it.
“No! I am Charles’s daughter! You can’t do this to me!”
I fought harder, rage taking over. I saw Lucas still gripping my wrist. So I lunged forward and sank my teeth into him. He gasped in pain and loosened his hold. I tore free, snatched the silver dagger from the ground, and lunged again.
