Chapter 24 Missed You So Much
An hour later, just as I was dragging my suitcase into the house, I unexpectedly received a text message from Madison.
“Julia, I’m not going to thank you.”
I almost burst out laughing. Did she think I helped cover for her just to get a thank you?
I moved my fingers, but before I could reply to Madison, I caught sight of a mountain of gift boxes piled up in the living room. They were bright red and came from various luxury brands. On top of the pile was a jewelry box, still sealed with a festive sticker.
I stood there, stunned. These… these couldn’t possibly be wedding gifts from Francis and Wendy, right?
For a moment, I was too preoccupied to deal with Madison. I quickly dialed my mother’s number to ask what was going on. She picked up right away.
My mother let out a cold laugh on the other end before saying, You guessed it. These gifts were indeed sent over by Francis. and Wendy.
“They said they wanted you to take a look and that if there’s anything you’re not satisfied with, they can prepare more.”
I was furious, ready to explode, to curse them out. But in the end, I held back and asked my mother, “Does Samuel know about this?”
“Based on what I know about Francis and Wendy, they believe in letting parents arrange marriages for their children. I’m
guessing Samuel doesn’t know. They’re likely planning to act first and report later.”
My mother paused for a moment and continued, “They said tomorrow would be a good day. What’s your plan?”
“They’re really something. With exam results comin out the day after tomorrow, they want to discuss the engagement tomorrow. It’s obvious they’re planning for me to repeat a year with Samuel!”
hinking about what happened in my previous life, I couldn’t
hold back my anger.
“Mom, can you get some workers to come over now? I want to return all these gifts along with everything else they’ve sent before.”
“Sure.”
My mother was always quick to take action. She soon had a long business car sent over. A few workers quickly loaded all the gift boxes onto the car.
Unfortunately, Francis and Wendy weren’t home. No one answered the phone either.
Since that was the case, I insisted on having the workers. unload the car at their house, no matter how much their housekeeper protested.
Of course, I had to let Evan know about this. Otherwise, if he misunderstood from so far away and thought I was getting
engaged to Samuel, I wouldn’t know what to do.
It was rare for Evan to call me. I was dozing off on the couch at the time, and when I answered, my voice was soft and
sweet.
“Mr. Stafford? What? You’re on your way to the airport? That’s great! What time will you arrive in Juville tomorrow?”
Evan was silent for a moment. “Don’t use that tone. Speak normally.”
I was so happy that I didn’t notice the hoarseness in his voice. I continued in a soft tone, “What do you mean? I’ve been speaking normally. It’s only been two days. Did you miss me? I missed you so much!”
“Goodbye!”
“No, wait! Mr. Stafford, you haven’t told me what time you’ll be
back”
“Probably tomorrow afternoon.”
“Tomorrow afternoon works! Even if it’s tomorrow evening, as long as you’re coming, it’s fine. Ah, Mr. Stafford, I love you so much. You-”
Before I could finish, he had already hung up on me.
This aloof man seemed emotionally immune. The moment I started to act cute or confess my feelings, he immediately
withdrew.
Hmph. No use hiding. Just wait. One day I’d bring him down. from that pedestal and make him fall for me alone. Hehe.
I ended up having a colorful dream. In the dream, Evan was uncharacteristically clingy, holding me close and calling me baby” over and over. It made me so happy that I couldn’t stop giggling like an idiot.
That was when I heard my mother’s voice calling out to me.
“Julia, get up! We have guests!”
I was bewildered. I sat up groggily, realizing it was still quite dark outside.
I glanced at the time. It was 5:30 a.m. Who on earth would visit this early and disturb someone’s rest?
1 scratched my messy hair. Feeling a bit annoyed, I went downstairs and immediately saw Wendy looking exhausted. She must not have slept much last night.
When she saw me, she quickly got up and grabbed my hand. ” Juju, you and Samuel have the closest relationship. You two, grew up together and even took Latin dance classes together. Is someone jealous of you?”
That’s when I found out that Samuel had been beaten up last night. He was covered in injuries.
Ha ha ha. I didn’t even need to think about it. It must have been one of Madison’s admirers who was jealous and did it out for revenge.
