Chapter 7 Very Well
I made the private investigator dig deeper and found out that Lucy cheated on my dad with a man old enough to be her
father because she didn’t like that my dad came from a poor
background.
I snickered inwardly. No wonder my dad disliked Lucy. The old man was pretty rich, but he had no children. That was why he married Lucy immediately after finding out she was pregnant.
During the fifth year of their marriage, the old man discovered that he had azoospermia, so Madison couldn’t have been his. He immediately kicked Madison and Lucy out of his house
after that.
Madison and Lucy were used to living extravagantly, so they quickly used up their little savings.
When she was at her wits‘ end, Lucy saw my dad on television. After discovering that he had built a successful career and had a happy family, she used Madison to blackmail him.
That was a critical period when Grandma was going to retire and Mom had yet to become the top official of Juville. Dad wanted to avoid escalating the issue, so he gave Lucy a lot of
money.
But when Lucy got what she wanted, not only did she not leave, bu he even wanted to marry Dad. However, Dad only loved
Mom.
After the truth was revealed, he only agreed to the divorce
when Mom threatened him with her life. No wonder Dad often drowned his sorrows with drink during that time.
Very well. Since Madison was jealous of me, I might as well make her more jealous. She wanted to snatch everything from me, so I would take her biggest support away first.
“Dad!” I immediately called Dad and asked in a cutesy tone, Are you free this weekend? I want to eat your steak. Mom’s at
home too.”
I was going to help Mom and Dad get back together again to piss off Madison and Lucy. Simply thinking of it was enough to make me excited.
After hanging up the phone, I stared at Evan’s grayscale profile picture on WhatsApp. After taking a deep breath, I decided to
contact Evan’s assistant.
Before I could call him, I suddenly received a call from Wendy. As always, she made up an excuse saying that Samuel wast simply too prideful to say that he wanted to see me and invited me to visit the Stafford residence.
Wendy was one of the main reasons why I only had eyes for Samuel in my previous life. Whenever Samuel hurt me with his words, Wendy would defend him and show me proof that
Samuel loved me.
The proof was all falsified by Wendy because she liked my family background. My grandmother and grandfather were all retired government officials, while my mom was currently the top offici in Juville. If I married Samuel, Bobby would be impressed by Samuel.
However, I wasn’t aware of this secret in my previous life. After I foolishly married Samuel, he relied on my family to take over Stafford Group and kicked Evan out.
Evan didn’t forfeit but instead left to congratulate us. By the time he returned to the country many years later, I was already in the psychiatric hospital.
Upon recalling those hopeless days in my previous life, I
smiled and said, “I’m sorry, Mrs. Stafford, but I already have something planned tonight, so I can’t visit.”
Wendy was very confused. “Juju, what plans can be more important than Samuel? Did you forget that the day after tomorrow is Samuel’s birthday?
“We used to plan birthday surprises for him every year. Are you sure you’re not coming?”
“Yes, Mrs. Stafford. I can’t make it. Goodbye.”
“Wait, Juju!” Wendy quickly added, “Samuel told me he was jealous and angry because he saw you getting close to a
handsome upperclassman at school. That was why he wanted to cancel the engagement.
“The both of you grew up together, so you should be aware that Samuel never means what he says. He actually cares about you deeply. He even ordered the driver to buy your favorite food, lobsters, this mor-”
“Mrs. Stard, my mom’s waiting for me.” When I mentioned Mom, Wendy immediately stopped, said something about us meeting up another time, and told me not to keep my mom
waiting.
She even reminded me not to make Mom angry. Wendy’s intentions were so obvious, yet I never saw through her in my previous life. I was such a fool.
Evan’s assistant’s name was Xavier Pittman. When he received a call from me, Xavier was shocked.
Upon hearing that I had some extremely important business with Evan, Xavier hesitated for a moment before sending me a GPS location.
I snickered inwardly. Then, I grabbed the forensic report and put on a sexy red slip dress before rushing to the location.
