In the car, I tried to hold it together, but before I could stop myself, tears spilled out, and my cheeks turned wet.
“What happened? Are you okay?”
Asher glanced over and frowned. “Of
course not. What happened?”
“I’m sorry,” I wiped my face. “I don‘ t even know why I’m crying.”
“You don’t need a reason,

simply, his voice steady. “If you don’t want to talk, that’s fine. I’ll pretend to be deaf, and blind. But if you want to talk, I’m here.”
I nodded, and couldn’t help but chuckle as I tried to calm down.
“Can you take me to a bar?”
He raised his eyebrows, looking at me.
“No.”

My lips parted and I frowned.
“Did you forget the last time you drank?”
My heart throbbed. But that pain meant nothing to what I was feeling.
“Just once… I…”
He frowned, and stopped the car, looking at me for a second.
After a moment, he started the car again, driving in silence until he pulled up to a quiet bar.
“Get down,” he said, stepping out and opening the door for me. “But no drinks.”
I smiled. It was strange. I didn’t even know him, but his casual caring behaviour made. me feel relieved.
Asher brought some alcohol when I first stared at him gulping them down one by one. Eventually, I grabbed a drink.
“It’s hurting a lot already. Taking it won’t

Asher didn’t say anything, letting me
continue.
“And now… after everything, I can‘ t even face them. I mean, how could I? They were right about him. About everything. And here I am, alone, with nothing to show. for it except a broken marriage and a lot of
regrets.
Asher leaned back to the railing, “Ashley, families fight. But if they love you and I know they do, they’ll want you back, no matter what has happened.”
“Asher,” I slurred, my voice quieter now. “Why are you even helping me?” I asked
him.
He smirked, tilting his can toward me. “Let’s just say I don’t like seeing you miserable.”
I tried to laugh, but it came out as a yawn. The exhaustion from the day, combined with the alcohol, was pulling me under.
“I think I need to sleep,” I mumbled, my

Asher stood, gently pulling me up. “Come on, let’s get you home.”
The incessant buzzing of my phone jolted me awake. I reached for it, only to see Ace’s name flash across the screen. His
ete relentless.
“Where were you last night?”
“Whose car was that?”
“Are you divorcing me because of him?”
“It was suspicious that you asked me for a divorce suddenly. So, it’s because of him. right”
Lelenched my jaw, anger simmering under my skin. I didn’t have the patience for his accusations. Without a second thought. 1 blocked his number, then tossed the phone
aside.
Today was the day before my abortion, and

I couldn’t afford to let him bother me.
By the time I got ready, Asher was already waiting downstairs, leaning casually against his car.
“Feeling better?” he asked as I slid into the passenger seat and I nodded as yesterday‘ s embarrassing moments roamed in my mind.
The ride to the clinic was quiet and when we got there, the tests were quick. The doctor assured me that everything was fine and the procedure could go ahead tomorrow.
We were leaving when a familiar voice cut through the air. “Ashley?”
I froze, my stomach lurching as Ace stormed toward us. His expression was a mixture of rage and disbelief, and before I could process what was happening, he swung a fist at Asher.
The punch landed squarely on Asher’s jaw, and I gasped, stepping between them

as Asher stumbled back. “Ace! What the hell are you doing?”
“You‘ re cheating on me with him, aren’t you?” Ace snarled, his gaze burning into mine. He pulled out his phone, shoving the screen in my face.
The photo was a picture of Asher and me in the hospital from that day. I was leaning against him, tears staining my face as he held me close. The caption beneath it read,
“What a sweet couple, where can I get such a husband?”
I stared at the image when I was filled with confusion. Why did Ace even felt bothered by this?
This photo must be from two days back. I sneakered. Was he angry because of this?
Wasn’t it because of him I had to come to the hospital? For forcing me to take a drink for his ex. Wasn’t it because he was by his ex‘ s side while I was having cancer? And the only person by my side at that time was a stranger. Asher.

I frowned. Of course, when a wife is in danger, her husband is the one staying by his side. They had to misunderstand our relationship. How would they know that my husband was actually by his ex’s side?
I frowned, and tilted my head.
“Why does it matter, Ace? We‘ re divorcing anyway. I don’t have anything to explain to you. Don’t you love Elena? Then, just sign the papers and be with your Elena.” I replied, getting between him and
Asher.
“You‘ re being ridiculous and dramatic. There’s nothing between Elena and me. Ace frowned. “We aren’t in a
relationship.”
I laughed, listening to him.
He stepped closer, “You always overthink everything. Now, come back!” Ace frowned, “I’m not going to sign, and let you both be together.” He clenched his fists. “And, for fucking how long have you

been cheating on me?” He questioned.
I shook my head, “Are you accusing me of cheating? I loved you for eight years! But after everything, you went to contact Elena behind my back. You’re the cheater. How long have I been blind? I’m not going to listen to you anymore.”
Ace massaged his forehead, trying to calm

his nerves. “I knew this is how you
going to act so I didn’t let you know about Elena. We’re nothing more than ordinary friends. Now look at you, I was right.”
My lips parted as I let out a laugh.
Asher shook his head while putting his arms over my shoulder, “I think we should get going,” He said to me and I nodded.
“There’s nothing to say to him.” I said before turning around to leave.
Ace gritted his teeth as he grabbed my hands tightly. I flinched as my arms sore when Asher shook his hands away.

Before Ace could say a word, he laughed,
“You know, if you can’t take care of your wife, someone else will.”
Ace‘ s fists clenched, but I grabbed Asher’s arm, pulling him away. “Let‘ s leave,” I muttered.
Asher smiled, and nodded as we both left.
The ride back was silent, and all I could think about was what happened. As soon as we arrived, I locked myself in the guest
room.
I let the tears drop as I dropped down on my knees, leaning back on the door, letting my tears drop.
I tried to calm down, but my heart ached. This was embarrassing.
I wanted to keep myself locked up in the room for some moment but the sharp ring of the doorbell broke my thoughts.
I assumed Asher would get it, but when the bell rang again, I forced myself up and

When I opened it, my breath hitched, and
