CHAPTER 12: Into the Deep
Victoria’s POV
The breeze had shifted, carrying a sharp chill that bit into my skin. The setting sun dipped lower, casting an orange glow over the restless waves. Yet, none of it mattered. Not the cold, not the beauty of the beach. All I could see was Lily’s piercing gaze locked onto mine.
We stood there, frozen in a silent war, the tension between us heavier than the ocean’s salty air, it was almost palpable. Her composed mask was slipping, anger simmering just beneath the surface.
“Do you really think you’re going to win this?” Lily finally said, her voice cutting through the crashing waves. Her tone was threatening and her eyes darkened.
“I’m not afraid of you, Lily,” I shot back, tightening my grip on my phone. Her threats couldn’t scare me. I was going to send the video to an agent once I was back at home, I knew what I wanted now. I was certain now.
Her lips curved into a cold, humorless smile. “You should be.”
And before I could react, she lunged forward, her hand darting out like a striking snake. Her fingers curled around my wrist, and she yanked me closer.
“What the hell are you doing?” I yelled, jerking my arm back, but she was stronger than I expected.
“Give me the phone!” she snarled, her polished demeanor crumbling as desperation seeped into her voice. “Give me the fucking phone, bitch!”
“No!” I twisted away, clutching the phone tightly. “Fuck you!”
Her nails dug into my skin painfully as she tried to wrestle it from my grip, she almost drew blood. The chilly breeze whipped around us, but the heat of our struggle burned through the cold. Sand shifted beneath my feet as I stumbled, nearly losing my balance.
“You don’t understand what you’re doing,” Lily hissed, her breath hot against my ear. “That video will ruin everything!”
Did she think the video was meant to make things better for everyone? She was definitely out of her mind.
“That’s the point!” I snapped, using all my strength to shove her away.
She staggered but recovered quickly, her eyes blazing with fury. “You’re so pathetic,” she spat. “Always so dramatic, always whining about everything! It’s no one’s fault that you failed to satisfy your husband’s need; he fucking came to me, begging for some decent fucking!”
Her words stung, but I refused to let them weaken me. I squared my shoulders, my chest heaving as I glared at her. “And you’re a bitch, I fired back. “You’re a disgusting harlot. I hate you!.”
Something in her snapped then, she seemed crazed; like a mad woman, like she had lost her mind. With a growl of frustration, she lunged at me again, this time grabbing the phone with both hands. We struggled, the device slipping between our fingers as we tugged and pushed against each other.
“Let go!” I shouted, panic rising as her nails raked across my hand.
“Not until you give me that video!” she yelled back, her voice shrill with desperation.
The struggle grew more frantic, and before I knew it, we were dangerously close to the water’s edge. The waves lapped hungrily at my ankles, cold and unrelenting.
“Lily, stop!” I warned, my voice cracking. “You’re going too far!”
But she didn’t stop. If anything, my unease seemed to fuel her determination. With one final, forceful tug, she wrenched the phone from my hands.
“Finally, she muttered, her face twisted with triumph.
But I wasn’t giving up just yet, i wasn’t going to let her take it.
‘Give it back!” I lunged for her, but she held it high above her head, her smirk mocking me.
“No chance,” she sneered, her finger hovering over the screen.
Fueled by sheer desperation, I lunged again, grabbing her arm and pulling her toward me. She let out a startled cry, and in the chaos, I lost my footing. The wet sand beneath me gave way, and the next thing I knew, I was tumbling backward into the icy embrace of the ocean.
