CHAPTER 20: Ambition
Lily’s POV
My heart was steady, but my pulse quickened as I watched Ethan. The game had gone on long enough, and it was time to claim what was rightfully mine. I moved closer to him, each step slow and deliberate. Wanting to distract him even more.
“We should get married,” I said softly, studying him closely.
Ethan’s eyes flickered up to meet mine, surprise briefly flashing across his face before he masked it with that familiar confidence of his. “married?” His tone was amused, but I saw the curiosity in his eyes. It only made me more certain that I was heading in the right direction.
“I’ve been thinking about it a lot lately,” I said, my voice low but full of purpose. “You and me, Ethan. We’ve been through so much, and it’s time I’m recognized. Not just as your… whatever we are. I want to be your wife. I want you to make it official.”
Ethan didn’t speak at first, and I could tell the weight of my words was settling in. His brow furrowed, and for a moment, I thought he might resist. But then I saw it–something in his gaze shifted, and I knew I had him exactly where I wanted him. He was intrigued now, no longer thinking about his previous reluctance, no longer thinking of Victoria or the video. I had pushed the right button.
“I’ve been loyal to you, Ethan. Through all of this–through everything we’ve been through,” I continued, my voice softer, coaxing. I leaned forward just a little, my fingers tracing his as I reached for his hand.
I felt the power I held over him now, the way he was hanging on every word, waiting for me to guide him further. “I think it’s time for you to make a choice. To make us official. I want you to introduce me to your parents, Ethan. Show them that I’m not just a passing part of your life. Show them that I’m your wife.
I watched him closely as I spoke, seeing the slight hesitation on his face. He didn’t want to say anything wrong, didn’t want to make a decision too quickly. But I could see in his eyes that he was considering it. That was the first victory, and I wasn’t going to let him back out now.
“You’re serious about this, Ethan said after a long pause, his voice quieter now, more thoughtful. His eyes never left mine.
“It’s time for us to move on. Forget Victoria and her drama.” I told him. “I don’t want to wait anymore.”
The words hung between us for a moment, heavy with meaning. I felt his gaze soften slightly as he took in my words, and I knew then that I was pulling him closer, inch by inch. He wasn’t going to resist for much longer.
Finally, he sighed and nodded. “Alright,” he said, his voice low and resigned. “I’ll introduce you to my parents. This weekend.”
A surge of satisfaction washed over me, though I didn’t let it show too much. I simply smiled, a smile that was just the right mix of triumph and sweetness. I had gotten what I wanted–he was going to make it official. I was going to be the one at his side, recognized by the world.
And it would be too late for Victoria if she ever tried to come back.
“Good,” I murmured. I leaned closer to him and let my lips press against his. He kissed me back immediately, he wanted me, needed me, and I could feel that hunger building between us.
“Lily.” he said my name, his voice low and tinged with desire.
I could feel the tension in the room shift as I slid my hands around his shoulders, urging him to kiss me even more. His hands moved instinctively to my waist, pulling me closer, and I let him, feeling the heat of his body against mine.
